Mahogany and rootwood (probably walnut) veneered over oak and maple. Extensive maple and ebony marquetry, including a meandering band around the entire rim and, in the center of the lid, a finely inlaid octagonal star and quarter stars in the corners.
The interior is oak with two small removable drawers in the lower section. A mirror is set inside the lid, framed by gilt-leaf moldings. The original mortise lock with side hooks is in working order. Restored condition, hand-lacquered, polished. The lid is slightly warped, preventing the lock from closing properly.
