Fireman's Helmet, Officer Model 1821. Louis Philippe.

Entirely made of brass. The base of the helmet is bordered at the front and back by a band decorated with raised moldings. The movable visor is embossed with two crossed axes linked by a ribbon, framed by laurel branches. The neck guard is edged with a folded rush, straddling its outer border. The crest has wings embossed with six gadroons and a mask decorated with a flaming bomb; it is surmounted by a caterpillar made of black horsehair. The brass front plate is embossed with a Gallic rooster on a globe, placed on a shield marked "Sapeur Pompier" (Firefighter), itself resting on a shield with crossed axes, a torch, and a grenade, and with a ribbon bearing the inscription "Commune de Chassericourt" (Commune of Chassericourt) against a background of bundles of flags. Brass chin straps composed of two chin pieces with rosettes: each chin piece consists of a brass plate stamped with scalloped scales in relief, and a round rosette stamped with gadroons in relief. Plume holder with a square cross-section tapering towards the bottom, with a tightening screw. Original, period-correct plume belonging to a fire officer. Good overall condition, but the inner lining is missing. There is a crack on the front plate and some minor losses, visible in photo #7.
