Antique Chinese Wucai Porcelain Hot Pot Tureen, 19th Century (qing)

A rare Chinese porcelain hot pot / table food warmer (huoguo) of domed two-part form on a pedestal foot, Qing dynasty, 19th century. Decorated in the wucai palette of iron-red, green and underglaze blue with gilt detailing, showing pendent ruyi-scroll borders and stylised lotus/peony sprays. The domed cover is pierced with a large central aperture and retains its original metal chimney liner. The body has an aperture to the foot for the burner/charcoal, and four applied iron-red mask heads holding metal suspension rings.

Unmarked to the base.

Use: A table vessel for keeping food hot; charcoal/embers are placed in the inner chamber and the cover vents through the central chimney.

Dimensions: Height 22.5 cm; Diameter 25.5 cm.

Condition: Good antique condition with light wear consistent with age and use; one metal ring handle is missing.
