A silver-gilt chalice by the master silversmiths DEMARQUET FRERES in Paris, circa 1880. It rests on a round foot with a beaded rim, the central boss chased with scrolling foliage and floral motifs. The false cup is also pierced with floral motifs.
A silver-gilt ciborium, also by the firm FAVIER FRERES in Lyon, circa 1880. It rests on a round foot. The foot, false cup, and lid are decorated with flowers and pine cones. The lid is surmounted by a Maltese cross.
Both pieces are 25 cm high; the chalice has a diameter of 13 cm and the ciborium 11 cm.
The total weight of the silver is 610 g.
Provenance: acquired by the previous owner at the Sotheby's Paris sale of March 28, 2007 (lot 130).
