Writing desk. Amboyna burl, mahogany, brass, leather. Veneered in amboyna burl on mahogany, it opens in three parts: the writing surface with its inkwell and compartment, the filing cabinet with its compartment, and a filing cabinet for the various writing implements. The top is decorated with a border. Note the great care taken, in addition to the selection and craftsmanship of the wood, in the embossed leatherwork, the hinges, locks, and finely engraved handle. Excellent condition. The key and inkwell are missing. London. Mid-nineteenth century.
