Portrait Of A Lady Of Quality, Louis XIV Era
Presumed portrait of Françoise Marie de Bourbon, known as the second Mademoiselle de Blois. She was the youngest illegitimate daughter of King Louis XIV of France and his official mistress, Françoise-Athénaïs de Rochechouart, Marquise de Montespan. At the age of 14, she married her first cousin, Philippe d'Orléans, the future Regent of France. The portrait is framed in carved and gilded wood decorated with oak leaves and acorns. She is depicted wearing an embroidered red dress, a bodice of fine lace, and a green draped gown, also embroidered, all adorned with precious stone jewelry. Her fontange hairstyle is decorated with ribbons and flowers. Louis XIV period
