18th Century Secretary Chest Of Drawers With Curved Front, Inlaid With Walnut And Plum Wood
This 18th-century desk, which could be described as a chest of drawers or secretary, features a curved front and marquetry decoration in local woods: walnut, maple, ash, and plum. The decoration consists of medallions with scalloped edges, set within a reserve of interlacing patterns and scrolls. The front has five drawers in four rows and a drop-front revealing eight small curved drawers and a secret compartment. The highly functional drop-front is held in place by two wrought-iron stays. Eastern European work, likely from Switzerland or Savoy.
