"Ceramic Vase By Pierre Fouquet (1909-2002)"
Ceramic vase by Pierre Fouquet. Height 20 cm, width 8 cm. Fouquet, Pierre, November 4, 1909, Paris – December 2002, Verrières-le-Buisson (Essonne). Pierre Fouquet studied at the School of Applied Arts between 1923 and 1927, then at the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers. He was ready to embark on a multifaceted career: an admirable technician, he made his skills available to all who needed them—students, manufacturers, and various clients; he simultaneously pursued technical research and his work as a designer. In 1936, he settled in Verrières-le-Buisson, where in 1942 he established a beautiful studio, the setting for much of his later work. A professor, he taught at the Sèvres National Porcelain Manufactory, the Duperré School, and the School of Applied Arts and Crafts on Rue Olivier-de-Serres in Paris. His students were numerous: Yves Mohy, Agathe Larpent, Jacques Buchholtz, Claude Champy, Bernard Dejonghe, and Guy Sarrauste de Menthières, to name just a few. Even after his retirement in 1974, he returned to work as a professor at the French Institute for the Restoration of Works of Art. At the same time, he pursued a wide variety of projects, working with Raoul Lachenal in Boulogne-Billancourt, designing models for the Sèvres porcelain factory, and more. His personal work is of high quality, rich in diverse technical research that he continued until his final days. Pierre Fouquet was named a Master of Art by the Ministry of Culture in 1994.
