Pierre Quidu, born in Port-Louis (Morbihan) on October 18, 1926, and died in Rennes on July 21, 2014, was a French painter. Pierre Quidu studied at the Lycée Dupuy de Lôme in Lorient. He graduated from the École Nationale des Métiers d'Art in Paris, specializing in animation. He then worked in decoration and advertising. Upon his return to Lorient in 1949, he met the painters André Forlay and Guy Bigot, with whom he formed close friendships. These encounters led him to the painter-engraver Adolphe Beaufrère, for whom he would later (1951) create the fresco in the Saint-Pierre church in Ploemeur. He also met Henri Joubioux and André Lenormand. His Cubist-inspired paintings are generous and imbued with great humanity. They often evoke scenes of daily life in Breton ports, travels, and jazz. His expression became abstract in the 1980s. His entire body of work is composed of colorful rhythms. His painting is luminous and vibrant. Equally skilled as a draftsman and painter, Quidu worked for many years as a decorator and, in this capacity, created numerous frescoes, most of which have unfortunately disappeared. He was a key figure in Lorient's artistic life. From 1977 onwards, Quidu gradually abandoned decorator and poster designer for painting, holding numerous exhibitions, notably at the Galerie La Palette, which regularly hosted his work. Pierre Quidu lived in Rennes from 1960 until his death in 2014.
