"Small Louis XVI Style Mahogany Desk, Napoleon III Period – Mid-19th Century"
This charming desk elegantly embodies the refinement of the Louis XVI style, revisited during the Second Empire. Crafted from mahogany, it captivates with its balanced proportions and rich ornamentation. The top features rounded corners and is highlighted by brass inlays framing new black leather, delicately adorned with a gilt vignette. This top is bordered by a finely carved molding, decorated with Greek key motifs, adding a classic and sophisticated touch. On each side, the desk has sliding drawers, also lined with black leather and adorned with gilt vignettes, allowing the workspace to be expanded while maintaining the overall aesthetic harmony. The desk's apron also has rounded corners, embellished with fluted plaques. It creates the illusion of three drawers, when in fact it is a single, large, cleverly concealed drawer. These fronts are decorated with brass moldings and fillets, and the drawer is fitted with Louis XVI style drop handles, which enhance the piece's noble character. This desk rests on four tapered legs, the upper part of which is adorned with a wide collar, while the stopped flutes are trimmed in brass, attesting to meticulous cabinetmaking. The toupie feet, also brass-plated, ensure a refined finish and perfect stability. This desk is much more than a functional piece of furniture: it is a decorative work, ideal for enriching a classic interior or creating a subtle contrast in a contemporary setting. *******Period: Mid-19th century.
