Antique Thai Bronze Buddha Bhumisparsha Mudra, Ayutthaya / Rattanakosin, 18th–19th Century

A fine antique Thai bronze Buddha seated in bhumisparsha mudra (“earth-touching” gesture), representing the moment of Enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.

Cast in bronze using the lost-wax method, the figure displays the classic stylistic traits of late Ayutthaya to early Rattanakosin sculpture: the flame finial atop the ushnisha, arched brows, downcast eyes, gentle smile, and robe falling gracefully over one shoulder.

The statue has developed an appealing aged patina of green and brown tones with areas of encrusted oxidation. The underside shows hollow-cast construction typical of period Thai bronzes.

Height 17 cm.

Condition: good, with wear, oxidation and small casting irregularities consistent with age and devotional use.

Beau Bouddha thaïlandais ancien en bronze assis en bhumisparsha mudra (« geste de la prise de la terre à témoin »), représentant le moment de l’Éveil sous l’arbre de la Bodhi.

Fonte à la cire perdue, cette statue présente les caractéristiques typiques des sculptures de la fin de la période Ayutthaya jusqu’au début de la période Rattanakosin : flamme au sommet de l’ushnisha, sourcils arqués, regard baissé, sourire serein et robe retombant avec élégance sur une épaule.

Belle patine ancienne aux tons vert et brun, avec zones d’oxydation et d’encrustations. La base ouverte révèle une fonte creuse conforme à la tradition des bronzes thaïlandais d’époque.

Hauteur 17 cm.

État : bon, avec usures, oxydation et petites irrégularités de fonte cohérentes avec l’âge et l’usage cultuel.
