Sanganer Kerchief, Woodblock Printed - India, Circa 1900
Circa 1900, India. A moving woodblock-printed shawl originating from Sanganer in Rajasthan, North India, according to a centuries-old tradition. Printed on cotton voile using a two-color woodblock design: chimney sweep brown and madder red with a field of small flowers in the center. The shawl is framed by borders adorned with boteh (a type of decorative pattern) on all four sides, where the rustic marks of the woodblocks are visible. This type of Sanganer shawl was imported to France in the 19th century to be worn with regional costumes. The edges are hand-rolled on all four sides. No flaws. Very good condition in terms of color and preservation. Dimensions: 90 cm x 85 cm.
