Charles-Euphrasie Kuwasseg (1833-1904) - Oil on wood - Street scene in Rouen. Oil on wood depicting a street scene in Rouen. Signed lower right. Some chips to the gilding of the frame. Charles-Euphrasie Kuwasseg was a French painter known for his landscapes and especially his seascapes. Son of the Austrian-born French painter Karl Joseph Kuwasseg, he grew up in an artistic environment where he learned drawing and painting at a very young age. From 1855 onwards, he exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon. His canvases often depict the coasts of Brittany, Normandy, or the North Sea, and sometimes also river landscapes enlivened by boats and everyday figures. His style is both realistic and poetic: he meticulously rendered the effects of light, the reflections on the water, and the calm or windy atmospheres with great care and a delicate touch. The influence of the Barbizon school is evident in the appreciation of nature and harmonious tones, as well as a romantic sensibility in the choice of subjects and atmospheres. On display at the Galerie Courcelles Antiquités, 97 rue de Courcelles, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
