Antique gentleman’s walking cane with a finely cast bronze handle in the form of Janus, the Roman god with two faces, symbol of thresholds and transitions. Expressively modelled bearded visages with a dark, naturally aged patina. The shaft is made of rattan, finished with a steel ferrule at the tip. Just below the handle is a small bushed aperture, originally intended for a wrist strap. A handsome and sculptural cane of Continental European taste, late 19th century (c. 1880–1900).

Length: 88 cm

Condition: good; minor wear to the shaft, patina and light rubbing to the bronze, ferrule with age wear — overall attractive, original surface and pleasing patina.

Category: Canne de collection avec pommeau
