"Lady's Desk In “boulle” Marquetry, Napoleon III – Mid-19th Century"
Napoleon III lady's desk adorned with sumptuous Boulle marquetry, named after Charles-André Boulle, cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV. This blackened pearwood piece of furniture with lively lines is distinguished by its rich chiseled brass inlays on a tortoiseshell background, offering a deep and refined contrast. These brass applications draw intertwined volutes, foliage and arabesques that enliven the entire front of the piece. The ornamentation is completed by chiseled bronze fittings: finely crafted offcuts, moldings, ingot molds and keyholes, which reinforce the decorative and precious character of the piece. This small piece of furniture is topped with an openwork gallery. It opens with a flap framed by gilt bronze moldings, equipped with a functional lock and its ornate key. The interior has a niche, three small drawers and a storage compartment hidden under a sliding top. The flap is covered in red leather decorated with a golden vignette and corner motifs, offering a beautiful writing space. This lady's desk rests on 4 curved legs adorned with large and beautiful bronze falls. Each represents a cherub with delicate features surrounded by acanthus leaves. A chiseled molding adorns the edge of each leg and ends with a foliate trim. A charismatic piece of art, this Napoleon III desk will bring a majestic presence and historical elegance to your interior, combining functionality and exceptional craftsmanship. *********Period: Mid-19th centuryExcellent condition after Restoration in our cabinetmaking workshop.
