"Wrought Iron And Ornate Console Table"
Regency style with crosspieces forming stylized scrolls. It rests on four large console legs joined by a spacer with a stylized arch. Beautiful ornamentation of shells, leaves and quatrefoils covered with a "golden mixtion". Sarrancolin Ilhet marble top (repaired). Bordeaux or Réolais work (La Réole, in Gironde) from the 19th century. Height: 92.3 cm / width: 114 cm / depth: 40 cm (origin: Bordeaux family) Our console combines the art of wrought iron (structure) and the "repoussé" technique (ornamentation). Curved in elevation and plan, its powerful lines present a harmonious stylistic and decorative balance. The choice of marble is not random: it comes from the Ilhet quarry. Very close to Sarrancolin in the Hautes-Pyrénées, the site has been in operation since the Louis XIV era. Blocks are extracted from this quarry for architecture, decoration and furniture. They were sent and used during the construction of the Palace of Versailles... then in the 19th century, for the construction of the Garnier Opera (Paris). Associated with our console, the nature of this top reveals the care taken in the most beautiful works of this kind. Located in the heart of "old Bordeaux", by visiting our shop, you will take the streets of the historic heart of the city. You will be able to appreciate different wrought iron works, sometimes numbered, which adorn windows, balconies, transoms... Depending on your starting point, you may pass by the Pey Berland Cathedral, the Saint-Michel Church, the Saint-Pierre Church, or by the rue du Mirail 1 in order to admire the works revealing the important activity of the workshops of the city and the region. You will notice the style and the many ornamental details applied to our console, witnesses to the heritage and know-how acquired under the old regime.1 - at n° 31, the Hôtel Leberthon, the private mansions of n° 36 and 43 / houses of n° 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52… rue Saint François, rue Leyteire, etc.
