18th Century Lacquered Wooden Wig Box
Beautiful wig box in red lacquered wood and gold powder with Asian decoration (temples and landscapes). Chiseled bronze trim. Louis XIV period, early 18th century. Fashionable at the beginning of the 18th century, this elegant box is used to store prepared, combed, deloused, washed and powdered wigs, most often flat and its size changes with changes in fashion. The wig box can be part of a kit and therefore be decorated with several small, matching boxes, which hold pins, powder, jewelry, solid perfumes, hair flies... Wig boxes were reserved for high society in the 18th century, the nobility, the upper middle class, and sometimes the clergy. Good general condition, no broken parts repaired, note several chips on the exterior lacquer and two nails missing on a hinge which does not prevent its proper functioning.
