Napoleon III Athenian Bolster
Refined Napoleon III period sellette table forming an Athenian in very finely carved solid mahogany and gilded with gold leaf presenting a ceremonial base depicting three large winged Victories partially naked, wearing an Egyptian crown with an eagle's head (worn by royal wives and pharaoh women) supporting a tray simulating a brazier with a sea green marble top. They are dressed at the waist in a loincloth with a palmette motif gathered around a triangular spacer decorated with a rosette, the whole resting on delicate hock legs ending in deer hooves. Furniture offered in a satisfactory state of conservation, beautiful gilding, note two losses at the top of the wings. Dimensions: 85 cm high X 48 cm wide.
