Second Half Of The 19th Century Large Polychrome Majolica Vase By Jafet Torelli
Artist: Jafet Torelli
Beautiful large polychrome majolica amphora vase with a white background. The vase features grotesque decorations on a blue and ochre background, and a foot also decorated with grotesque motifs mounted on an octagonal base. The vase's lid is adorned with a naked, winged cherub dancing with his right leg raised and his arms raised above his head, holding cymbals. Below the curly handles are two high-relief masks, while above the handles are seated two winged, naked cherubs with crossed legs, one playing a trumpet and the other a mandola. At the center of the vase, on both sides, are animated scenes of Venus and Cupid, depicted in an interior space and an exterior setting near a river. Harpies and grotesques are painted around these scenes on a blue background. This vase, of great elegance and craftsmanship, can furnish any space with class and refinement. Italian craftsmanship, produced by the Jafet Torelli atelier in Florence, around the second half of the 19th century (ca. 1874-1898).
