Country scene, oil on canvas, French school of the 18th century, around 1700. We present a landscape animated by characters against a backdrop of architecture. Our painting is close to the artist Pierre Patel, (1604-1676), or his son Pierre-Antoine Patel, (1648-1707), specialized in landscapes with ancient ruins. Pierre Patel considered as one of the most gifted landscapers of his generation and participated in important projects, including that of the "Cabinet de l'Amour" at the Hôtel Lambert, alongside Simon Vouet and Eustache Le Sueur.
