Théodore Haviland Porcelain Dinner Service

Artist: Théodore Haviland
“Mousseline. Gold and Sapphire” Dinner Service Muslin porcelain, relief, gilding, cobalt. France, Théodore Haviland, Limoges, circa 1900–1915.
Magnificent Théodore Haviland (Limoges, France) mousseline porcelain dinner service—a refined example of Belle Époque Limoges craftsmanship, combining delicacy of form with the technical perfection of the material.
Maker: Théodore Haviland, one of the most prestigious manufacturers in Limoges. Founded by Théodore Haviland, a member of a famous American porcelain dynasty, the factory was established in Limoges at the end of the 19th century and quickly distinguished itself by the quality and finesse of its products.
Marks: “Théodore Haviland Limoges France” (handwritten), “Porcelain Mousseline TH Limoges France” (with TH monogram). This double mark was used between 1893 and 1915, during the period when Haviland promoted its iconic Porcelaine Mousseline series—a porcelain of extreme finesse, almost translucent, named by analogy with textile muslin to evoke its whiteness, lightness, and silky feel.
Decoration: rich gilding on the handles and lids; cobalt frieze decorated with a delicate gilt motif in the spirit of Louis XVI; subtle reliefs highlighting the plasticity of the material.
Style: Belle Époque, with neo-rococo and Louis XVI elements—elegant curves, refined proportions, brilliant gilding. Condition: showcase.
