Charming bronze bust with brown patina representing Sabine Houdon, daughter of the sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828). This work is a reduction after the original model created by Houdon around 1786, preserved at the Louvre Museum. The bronze has a nuanced brown patina, very neat, and rests on a base in the form of a gilded fluted column decorated with an acanthus frieze.
This portrait, full of softness and naturalness, perfectly illustrates Houdon's talent for capturing childlike grace and truth of expression. Bronze editions of this model were made in the 19th century by various founders, testifying to the lasting success of Houdon's works among amateurs and collectors.
Period: 19th century
Signature: Houdon on the side of the bust
Material: Bronze with brown patina and gilding
Height: 45 cm
Condition: Note a lack of patina on the face in certain places (see photo)
Emblematic work of French neoclassicism, of great finesse of execution, ideal for decorating a desk, a bookcase or a console.
