Framed painting under glass, pastel depicting Serena reading, after the oil on canvas by George Romney depicts Serena, the heroine of a popular poem by William Hayley, friend and biographer of the artist. In "The Triumphs of Temper" (1781), Hayley describes Serena's enthusiasm for reading the most recent novels. The painting, possibly a copy, is on display at Dunrobin Castle, Sutherland, Scotland. Signed lower right (partially visible) Period late 19th century Size on view 35*47 cm and 41*53.5 cm with frame
