" Spanish School (c. 1930) - Our Lady Of The Milk (after Luis Morales, Known As "el Divino")"
Oil on reinforced panel. The Madonnas of Luis de Morales (1510-1586) embody the quintessence of a simple and modest spirituality that profoundly influenced the devotional art of the Spanish Golden Age. Their visual language is the result of a particular hybridization of formulas, where the compositional grace of the Italian Renaissance blends with the meticulous detail of Flemish painting and the sentimental dryness of Late Gothic. Morales thus created a unique style, characterized by the use of a dense sfumato, the sculptural modeling of the figures and a melancholic and meditative expression. His Virgins and Child, often illuminated by concentrated light against dark backgrounds, do not seek splendor, but rather introspection and a delicate and touching beauty, inviting the faithful to an intimate and personal devotion preceding the austerity of the Counter-Reformation. - Dimensions of the image without frame: 48 x 64 cm / 62 x 78 cm with custom antique gilt frame.
