Painting, oil on canvas signed lower right by the painter Gabriel HERVE (1868-?). The scene represents a portrait of a lady from the Roaring Twenties. Good condition, see photos. Beautiful format. Gabriel Hervé was born in Bonnes on July 5, 1868. He is the brother of Jean Hervé, a member of the Comédie-Française. A student of the painter Honoré-Louis Umbricht, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1898 to 1912. In 1898, during the Salon des Artistes Français, he exhibited a portrait of a man in the style of his master Umbritch. He was then rewarded and considered a master of tomorrow. He participated the same year in the opening of an exhibition organized by the Society of French Artists and the National Society of Fine Arts at the Galerie des Machines. He presented a "very remarkable portrait". In January 1899, he exhibited an "excellent portrait of a woman" at the Cercle Volney. In 1903, he became a member of the French artists. In 1904, he exhibited again at the Cercle Volney a "rigorous and excellent portrait of a man". The same year, in June 1904, he participated in a Salon where he attracted attention with a "beautiful and powerful portrait", representing Jacques Chaussier, deputy of Saône-et-Loire. In 1905, during an exhibition of the Artistic and Literary Circle, his superior drawing qualities, his efforts and the stability of his work were noted. He was then considered a promising artist. Married in 1909, he was a tenant of the Villa des Arts. In 1911, he organized an exhibition of around fifty paintings at 35 Rue La Boétie. In 1915, he participated in the JOB Collection, notably by creating illustrations for a calendar. He died on July 16, 1942 in Paris, where he lived on rue Hégésippe-Moreau.
