Mid-18th Century Four Paintings Of The Cardinal Virtues
Four refined oil paintings on canvas depicting the four cardinal virtues. The paintings are inspired by the frescoes painted by Andrea del Sarto in the Chiostro dello Scalzo in Florence, and depict the four cardinal virtues: faith, hope, justice, and charity. Each virtue is depicted as a woman, with its attributes, in shades of brown and gray, with a subtle chiaroscuro. These paintings were originally part of a decorative polyptych, from which they were later detached. These paintings display great stylistic and figurative precision, capable of furnishing any space with a touch of antiquity and taste. Florentine manufacture, mid-18th century.
