Pair of Crystal and Gilt-Bronze Amphora Vases – Napoleon III Period, Late 19th Century

An elegant pair of amphora-shaped vases crafted from clear faceted crystal and embellished with remarkable finely chased and gilt-bronze mounts.

Their slender silhouettes feature ovoid bodies raised on circular pedestal feet and surmounted by widely flared necks. Each vase is flanked by two large openwork handles composed of elegant double scrolls, delicately adorned with acanthus leaves and foliate motifs.

The bodies are encircled by rich neoclassical gilt-bronze decoration comprising draped garlands, ribbon bows, foliage and floral motifs arranged around a central urn. A beaded border enhances the shoulders, while finely cast foliate mouldings accentuate the necks and bases.

The remarkable quality of the crystal recalls the finest productions of the leading French crystal manufactories of the second half of the 19th century, including Baccarat and Saint-Louis.

The transparency of the crystal beautifully highlights the precision of the chasing and the warm brilliance of the gilding. Their harmonious proportions and refined ornamentation give this pair a particularly elegant decorative presence.
