"Gilded Morocco, Silver Lock, 18th Century. "
This beautiful red leather morocco is iron-gilded around the edge and on the flap with a frieze of floral motifs, and each corner is stamped with a spandrel representing a small bouquet of flowers. The interior, divided into two parts, is lined with blue moiré silk, and the reverse of the flap is richly gilded with a frieze of animal motifs such as a bird, goat, fox, and stork alternating with bouquets of flowers. The solid silver lock has retained its beautiful original key, the barrel of which is triangular and the ring is beautifully cut and openwork. The control mark stamped on the lock is a rooster's head facing left, in force from 1750 to 1756 in Paris. Period mid-18th century. Dimensions 27 cm x 22 cm.
