Diamond Engraved Steel From Plombières Manufacture: Precious Embroidery Box
Beautiful object from the Second Empire, Plombières les Bains, a residence of Napoleon III and Eugenie, and a formerly royal factory, specializing in armory and, as in Tula and Sheffield: in luxury objects in polished, blued, faceted steel…. Steel treated as jewelry. This object is a sewing box, opening with a key, in the style of a square watch key, the lid with a wide border is studded with diamond points, on an engraved background, in its center: a ball of velvet. The inclusion, as in Tula, of flowers or faceted diamonds nailed into the material and even engraved, is very elegant here. Two bobbin holders are adjusted in parallel for controlled tension, the bobbins are superb, turned, serrated, decorated with two sizes of “diamonds” on an engraved background…. The condition is almost perfect, the polish would deserve a little refreshment… Beautiful object, in the spirit of the Empress Eugenie.
