"Small 19th Century Italian Gilded Armchair"
Charming miniature armchair in carved and gilded wood, richly decorated with rocaille motifs. The seat and back are still covered in their old worn velvet, testifying to its authenticity. Its intermediate size (58 cm), too large for a simple doll and too small for an adult, suggests a particular destination: probably a votive armchair intended to receive a statue of the Virgin "sedia della Madonna" in a chapel or a domestic altar, common use in Italy in the 19th century. It can also be interpreted as a child's armchair or a cabinetmaker's demonstration piece. Original patina and wear, very decorative.
