Willy Schlobach (Belgian, 1864-1951), Landscape, 1902, oil on wood panel. Willy Schlobach was a Belgian painter born in Ghent to a family of German origin. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He founded the group “Les XX” in 1883, alongside James Ensor, Fernand Khnopff and Théo Van Rysselberghe, a circle of innovative artists who introduced the Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist movements from France to Belgium. He painted landscapes and maritime scenes, particularly of the Belgian coast. His art is characterized by a luminous palette and poetic sincerity.
