The scene is drawn from life, it represents a lively scene in a market in Lisbon, two groups of women standing are in conversation, visibly the discussion between the two women on the right is more virulent than that located on the left of the scene. Coming from a studio background, this drawing has tiny tears at the edge and some folds in particular and slightly more marked at the bottom right. Please look at the photos carefully. Dimensions: Length: 48 cm Width: 32 cm Henri Laffite (1885–1977), French painter and sculptor, was born in Condom on January 28, 1885. Son of a journeyman sculptor, he left school at the age of 13 to learn the trade from his father, while taking courses in drawing and geometry. In 1901, he entered the Beaux-Arts de Toulouse where he obtained several distinctions, then continued his training in Paris in 1904, studying at the Flaguière and A. Mercié studios. He would have also known Bourdelle according to family accounts, both being from the southwest. In 1905, he won first prize in the Falguière studio's life-size round figure competition. Between 1907 and 1914, he made a living from his art, creating busts, bas-reliefs, paintings, and experimenting with encaustic painting. Mobilized during the First World War, he sketched life at the front in watercolors. After 1919, he settled in Paris, then stayed in Lisbon and began a long relationship with Carlotta Syder, whom he followed to Brazil in the 1950s. There, he collaborated on architectural projects and created stained-glass windows, frescoes, and paintings, but experienced a difficult period marked by Carlotta's illness. During his career, Laffite participated in numerous exhibitions, restored more than 120 churches in France (notably with Maurice Denis), and decorated 75 churches in Brazil. Returning to Condom in 1961, he died there on February 26, 1977, continuing to paint until the end of his life.
