"Gold Enameled Amulet Pendant With A French Fleur-de-lis And A Calcite Cabochon, sunstone', XVI C"
Gold enameled amulet pendant with a French fleur-de-lis and a calcite cabochon, known as the 'Sunstone'. Since the Vikings, when fog prevented them from finding their way, they were able to determine the direction of the sun thanks to the unique refraction of light through this stone. Originally a pendant with white and green enamels and lilies at the vertices of a cross, the object was modified into a brooch in the 19th century. The type of enamel and the structure that allowed the stone to be removed from the setting date the object to the Renaissance period of the 16th century. Weight: 31 g (4.2 x 3.3 cm).
