"Italian School Of The 18th Century, Portrait Of Victor Amadeus III, Duke Of Savoy And King Of Sardinia "
Elegant portrait depicting Victor Amadeus III, Duke of Savoy, Prince of Piedmont and then King of Sardinia from 1773. A member of the Savoy dynasty, he played a key role in 18th-century European politics, seeking to modernize his states while preserving their independence from revolutionary France. The work, executed after Domenico Duprà, official painter to the court of Turin, perfectly illustrates the refined and measured style of Piedmontese court painting: noble pose, calm gaze, and ceremonial costume adorned with decorations. Comparable versions of this portrait can be found at the Ickworth Museum (Suffolk, United Kingdom) and at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Chambéry, where a copy has been preserved since 1997. Oil on canvas. Good general condition, some restorations are required, particularly on the pictorial surface. Antique frame. A rare and historically interesting work, a testament to the prestige of the House of Savoy in the 18th century. Provenance: private collection Dimensions: approximately 80 x 65cm (without frame)
