J. LEROY, painter-decorator from Liège, circa 1880–1910
Magnificent panel in curved iron sheet, painted in oil, representing the coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg: field fessed in silver and azure, with a crowned red lion, surmounted by a grand-ducal crown with a gules cap lined with ermine. Stenciled signature on the reverse: “J. LEROY”, the painter-decorator from Liège active at the end of the 19th century, known for his public decoration work and painted signs.
Work of fine craftsmanship, typical of official commissions for the facades of public buildings (administrations, courthouses, customs or exhibitions). Original paint, authentic patina, some cracks and wear related to age.
