SI KIANG is a perfect example of the "Old Marseille" decorations found on earthenware services made in the south of France in the 18th century. Chinese-inspired designs were fashionable at the time, reflecting Europeans' fascination with the Orient and its influence on the decorative arts. A great lover of antiques, André Raynaud acquired an earthenware plate in 1974, admiring its designs, and decided to transpose them onto his delicate, fine, and translucent porcelain, allowing for a perfect and vibrant rendering of the designs and colors. This service features six original scenes, present on all the plates and cups, depicting bucolic scenes of fishermen amidst exotic nature. Foliage and birds adorn the rims of the plates, whose edges are finished with an elegant green combed border. Raynaud now reinterprets this iconic design of the House on "Argent," an 18th-century scalloped form, to further enhance its refinement.
