Alpine Cow Milking Stool - Bottacul
Until the beginning of the 20th century, livestock farming was one of the main resources of the Chamonix valley. Dairy cows were milked twice a day, morning and evening. This single-legged manual milking stool, or monopod, is called a "bottacul" in patois. It is attached to the waist and allows you to easily move from one animal to another while keeping your hands free. It also compensates for the uneven flooring in the stables and the shape of its seat perfectly matches that of a hindquarter. It is made of carved wood engraved with the initials of the owner DA DA repeated five times in different places on the seat, and provided with a rich decoration of flowers and stars on its upper part, it measures 27 cm high and 30 cm long approximately, France Alps 1st part of the 19th century
