This exceptional piece perfectly illustrates the know-how and poetic sensitivity of Émile Gallé, great master of the Nancy School and emblematic figure of the Art Nouveau movement. The rectangular top, finely fretted and bordered by a lively gallery, presents a sumptuous floral decoration in marquetry of various species, revealing all the richness of the inlay work dear to the artist. The ends are openwork with stylized plant motifs, while the middle facings are delicately cut with musical notes and clefs, recalling the musical vocation of the piece of furniture. The sculpted base, with plant scrolls ending in flower buds, gives the whole an organic elegance typically from Nancy.
