Object description :

" Needlepoint Tapestry, Berlin Wool Work Needlepoint, 19th Century"
- Needlepoint tapestry (wool and gold threads on canvas), Berlin wool work needlepoint, work from the 2nd half of the 19th century.

- This tapestry consists of a rectangular central field proportional to the dimensions of the hanging, which is divided into eight compartments, each containing an animated scene. A border delimits each compartment with a frieze of geometric motifs alternating between palmettes and octagons on a red background. The eight scenes are distinguished by the characters, actions and settings they display, while they all seem to have taken the path of Romanticism (picturesque, dramatic, dreamy scenes, etc.). The wide border surrounding it is composed of flowers. These are treated naturally, their number creating density for a clever decorative effect

.- This embroidered hanging is distinguished by its originality, the fineness of the stitch used, and the bright colors that add strength and vigor to the charming central scenes. Please note that gold threads have been embroidered to highlight certain details.

- If the workshop remains to be determined, the technique is that of the so-called Berlin embroidery, born at the beginning of the 19th century and known for their vibrant colors and subtle nuances, thus creating detailed and three-dimensional patterns.

- Very good condition (very few restorations), lining on the reverse, Velcro strip sewn on the reverse for fixing.
