Carriage Clock By Musy Père & Fils, Horlogers Du Roi, Drocourt Case, 19th Century
Elegant carriage clock signed Musy Père & Fils, Horlogers du Roi, Turin, with applied monogram “MCG” within a count’s coronet shield.
Dimensions: 23 x 14 x 13 cm.
Polychrome porcelain dial with Roman numerals signed Musy Père & Fils, decorated with allegorical figures and cherubs on a blue background.
Finely cast and chased gilt bronze case, richly adorned with flowers, scrolls, and inset painted porcelain panels. 8-day movement with platform lever escapement, hour and half-hour strike on a gong, repetition on demand, and alarm, marked Drocourt.
The carriage clocks of Pierre and his son Alfred Drocourt are admired by collectors and dealers alike for their high-quality movements and finely finished cases. Their clocks can be identified by their oval mark depicting a carriage clock flanked by the capitals “D” and “C”.
A clock with an identical bronze case but different panels is discussed and illustrated in Fanelli’s book A Century of Fine Carriage Clocks, pp. 92–93.
A high-quality example accompanied by its original traveling case marked Musy Padre e Figli.
The clock will be delivered fully overhauled. The rear glass panel is currently being replaced. The case is well preserved with minor wear to the gilding; porcelain panels intact, with faint removable surface dirt.
