Rare oil on panel by Louis Leprince Ringuet from 1956. Louis Leprince-Ringuet (1901-2000) was a French physicist, a pioneer in the study of cosmic rays and elementary particles. A professor at the École Polytechnique and the Collège de France, he played a major role in the development of nuclear physics and was a member of the Academy of Sciences and then the French Academy. Engaged in public life and popularization, he wrote numerous essays. An accomplished artist, he painted landscapes, skies, still lifes, and modern scenes, exhibiting regularly and leaving paintings visible, notably at the Musée du Colombier in Alès.
