The animation, the colors and a certain joie de vivre in Marseille at the beginning of the 20th century with this oil on canvas by the painter Christophe.
The work is offered in a gilded and sculpted frame which measures 48.5 cm by 57 cm for 33 cm by 41 cm for the canvas alone, in good condition, only a small old restoration on the back invisible on the painting side.
It represents the flower girls of the Flower Market of Cours Saint Louis, a few steps from the famous Canebière.
Anecdotal and historical, the work is signed and dated 1888 lower left.
Born in Constantinople in Turkey and died in Marseille in 1916 where he lived Ruisseau Mirabeau in the Northern Districts. He produced on several occasions and in a delicate and classic touch of the seaside, the quays of the merchant ports of Joliette and Arenc as well as some beautiful seascapes of Saint Henri and L'Estaque.
