Carle Vernet (1758-1836), son of the painter Joseph Vernet and father of Horace Vernet, was a renowned French painter and engraver. He became known for his battle scenes, landscapes, and depictions of horses, a field in which he excelled. A member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, he became one of the most highly regarded artists of the Empire. His lithographs and engravings reflect a keen sense of movement and detail.
