Biography
Mario Peruggini (1923 – …) was born in Italy. He trained in drawing and ceramics in Urbino before moving to Belgium in 1947, where he continued his studies at the École Industrielle Commerciale et de Dessin in Châtelet. He later studied under Alphonse Darville at the Academy of Fine Arts in Charleroi.
In 1952, he was hired by Roger Guérin as a sculptor, modeler and molder, creating architectural pieces. In 1957, he worked at Crame-Crame in Chatelineau, specializing in sculptural works. He later became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Charleroi, where he ended his career.
Peruggini exhibited in 1965 at the 38th Salon de Charleroi. He sometimes signed his works with the monogram “MP”. An animal sculptor, he often depicted bulls, horses and dogs in tense and improbable positions. Women also figured among his favorite subjects (busts, torsos, nudes).
