Ladislaus
(Ladislav) Eugen Petrovits (Vienna, January 21, 1839 – April 1, 1907) was an Austrian painter and illustrator of Serbian and Czech origin. He

a member of the Watercolorists’ Club of the Vienna Society of Fine Arts. From
1859 onwards, he participated in several exhibitions mainly dedicated to city
and landscape painting.
The present work depicts the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice. Executed in watercolor on cardboard, it measures 38.5 × 53.5 cm. The composition is notable for the precision of detail and the highly realistic rendering of the architectural elements. The artist skillfully emphasized spatial depth through an accurate perspective, while the balanced use of light and shadow brings vibrancy and movement to the view.
The painting is signed “L.E. Petrovits” and dated “Venedig 1900” at the lower left. On the reverse, there are several inscriptions, including the indication “Venedig. Maria de la salute.” The overall condition is good.
