Provenance: former home of the artist in Neuville-aux-Bois in Loiret
Fenaux, originally from Hazebrouck, located near the Belgian border, began his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lille, then continued his training in Paris under the direction of Paul Landowski and Marcel Gaumont. In 1938 he won the 2nd Grand Prix de Rome, and in 1943 the 1st Grand Prix de Rome. From 1946 to 1949 he was a resident at the Villa Medici in Rome, and from 1949 to 1950 at the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid. In the 1950s and 1960s, he received numerous commissions from both the Church and the State. Fenaux is undoubtedly one of the finest French sculptors of the post-war period.
