Collector's Miniature Cabinet, First Quarter Of The 18th Century

Miniature Collector’s Cabinet, early 18th century, probably English.

This finely crafted miniature cabinet from the first quarter of the eighteenth century is veneered in beautifully figured burr walnut. The façade opens with two doors revealing an intricate arrangement of small drawers surrounding a central cupboard compartment, all fitted with brass ring pulls.

The front and sides are veneered, while the top and top of the door panels are decorated with faux burr walnut graining. Subtle inlaid decoration can be found on the front of the doors, the sides and on the inner door panels, adding a refined decorative touch to the cabinet’s restrained design.

Cabinets of this type were intended to house jewellery, documents, curiosities and other personal treasures, combining practical storage with an elegant decorative presence.

The cabinet stands on turned bun feet, which are likely later additions. A key is present but the cabinet no longer locks (key may not be original.).
