"The source" patinated terracotta representing two children sitting around an amphora from which water flows, after Albert Ernest Carrier Belleuse. Signed on the back A Carrier and dated 1864. Albert Ernest Carrier Belleuse (1824-1887) is one of the most prolific French artists of the 19th century whose peak of art was during the Second Empire. He was greatly inspired by the artists of the Renaissance and the 18th century, which he largely contributed to bringing back into fashion. He created busts of the great men of his time, received a large number of state commissions, and participated in numerous architectural projects, including the Opera Garnier in Paris. Museums around the world now hold his works, including the Louvre, the Orsay Museum, the Metropolitan Museum in New York... He was the master of Rodin and many others...
