"Low Sideboard In Solid Mahogany Stamped Chavignau"
Low sideboard in solid mahogany and oak from the Louis XVI period. It opens with two front doors revealing three drawers and an oak shelf. The panels of the furniture are framed with fine moldings, also repeated inside the openings. The whole, very elegant in line and of high quality cabinetmaking is topped with a gray Sainte Anne marble top (restored). The uprights (at right angles at the back and rounded at the front), are deeply fluted. Original gray Sainte Anne marble top. High quality Parisian work from the Louis XVI period. Stamped CHAVIGNAU Height. 88.5 cm, width. 130 cm, depth. 53 cm Very good original condition, (very slight restorations, the lock from a later period, the marble is restored, the furniture revarnished with a buffer by our workshop) Condition report and technical photographs on request. Victor-Jean-Gabriel Chavignau (1746-1806). Master on January 23, 1787. First a free worker, then a member for ten years of the community of Parisian carpenters. Victor Jean Gabriel Chavignau, established his workshop in the Saint-Joseph courtyard, rue de Charonne. He began his career as a free craftsman and was only received as a master cabinetmaker ten years later, in 1787. His stamp can be found on Louis XVI and Transition style furniture, in mahogany or fruit wood, sober and of fine quality. We can mention a Louis XVI console in mahogany, with rounded sides, fluted legs and a belt decorated with a bronze bas-relief representing two children. After his death, his widow and son continued his activity.
