Buffet 2 Corps à Retrait Renaissance
A very handsome Renaissance two-piece sideboard in walnut with recess.
This piece of furniture features superb quality woodwork and, above all, a rich decoration typical of Renaissance furniture:
the doors are composed of flower-band motifs, the jambs are richly carved with plant motifs (including the rear jambs of the piece of furniture) and end in slightly projecting capitals.
The cornice rests on a band also decorated with motifs of small rosettes.
These motifs are reminiscent of those disseminated by collections of engravings and ornaments, and are typical of the second Renaissance in France, particularly in vogue between the mid-16th and early 17th centuries.
Finally, the piece is crowned by an attractive pediment adorned with a central rosette.
Note some minor old restorations, later locks and keys.
